Operation Sealion - the Lockdown Map game....

As one game closes, so another opens. There are 6 of us playing "Operation Sealion" - Hitler's invasion of Southern England in 1940. In our alternate history, the Germans have managed to hold off the Royal Navy long enough to land forces, some of which are now in West Sussex, around Billingshurst.
3 players are Germans, 3 are Empire (Canadians, actually). All orders, movements and combat is routed through an umpire, who feeds back to you limited information from your forces and other commanders. The six of us don't know who we are in game terms, so whilst I know Chris P, Dave W and Mark S are players, I don't know if they are on my side and I'm not allowed to ask!
For similar reasons I cannot share the game ('cos my sneaky fellow gamers would work out who I am) but it has been fun so far. A lot of waiting, confusion, mixed orders and inconclusive results..... a bit like a normal day at the office.....
At some point I'll put some pictures up, or the AAR (After Action Report).
Till next time (or should that be "Auf Wiedersehen"?)
PS - Yes, I am trying to use those years as a resident of West Sussex to gain an advantage!

Nachod - FINISHED

All good things come to an end....   here is the final position after Prussian turn 10.

The Austrians held their gains, despite losing a large number of troops.  The Austrian view:

The Prussian view:

It has been a really fun game, in the balance all the way.  Many thanks to my fellow gamers and to Chris Pringle, who has moved the troops, rolled the dice and presented the results in an easy to read format that has made planning our moves easy.

There are plans for another game in this campaign, so I will report on that as and when!

In the meantime - stay safe!

Wargaming in Lockdown - Turn 7

So, Turn 7 just got resolved.  Hot off the presses....

Osterreich Outlook

Prussian Perspective

With two turns to go, it is still exciting and in the balance.

Will the Austrians co-ordinate and use weight of numbers?

Will the Prussians use fresh troops and greater range (it is called "needling the enemy...") to hold the Austrian steamroller, perhaps to put it into reverse??  (As a Prussian - I DO HOPE SO!).

Stay tuned for turn eight - or Acht!  (putting the Acht! into Achtung!!)

Wargaming in Lockdown - Turn 6

Happy Easter!  We have completed turn 6 now, busy writing orders for the Prussian turn 7.  Turn 6 looks like this:

And, to complete the picture, the Prussian perspective....

Wargaming in Lockdown - Nachod Turn 5

Ladies & Gentlemen - your Good Friday reading!

Osterreich Outlook

Prussian Perspective

As in most BBB games, there is still opportunity for both sides to win this one.

Will the Austrians wipe out the Prussians faster than the Prussian re-inforcements can deploy?

Will the Prussians, still hanging on, take the offensive?

Stay tuned for turn 6 !

Nachod - Daguerrotypes from the front !

As we are at the fore front of 1860's technology, our intrepid war reporter has managed to take some excellent pictures of the action in Nachod.... !

Wargaming in Lockdown - Nachod Turn 3

The next instalment - with views from both the Austrian & Prussian sides...

Pages - Saxons 1809 for BBB

Dear Fellow Gamers

I am experimenting with "pages" and have created one for my 6mm Saxon army on this blog.  Let me know what you think.

Here's some photos to whet your appetite...

Wargaming in Lockdown - Nachod - THE MAP

Dear All, as an aid to understanding this game, I give you the BBB scenario map.

This probably should have been the first post....!

Wargaming in Lockdown - Nachod Turn 2

So, here is the picture (literally) after turn 2.  The Prussians no longer have reinforcements coming on and the Austrians pile in.  Slowly and spasmodically, the Prussians hope...

So, the Prussians spend Sunday afternoon plotting move 3.....  He! He! He! (in Teutonic sinister accent....)

Wargaming in Lockdown - Nachod, 27 June 1866

Dear All

I am now getting my gaming BBB fix via the internet.  The stalwarts of the OWS (Oxford War-games society) are playing the Prussians at Nachod (27 June 1866).  The intrepid gamers from the South Oxfordshire club are the numerically superior Austrians.

Move 1 was last night.

Here is what we got as results.

Dave W and I are the Prussians.

Chris P is umpire, model mover and picture taker.  He will also be throwing dice - hopefully mine look like this:
