BBB Bash Day IV - 1st July 2023 - update 24 Feb 2023

Bloody Big Battles – update 24th Feb 2023

We are pleased to announce that a number of BBB players have offered to host games at the Bloody Big Battles Bash Day, which will be held at Leeds Wargames Club on 1st July 2023.  If you fancy two battles (one in the morning, one in the afternoon) in one day, then here are the games on offer so far:

ACW                           Chancellorsville

Crimean War              Inkerman

Franco-Prussian          To be confirmed

ACW                           2nd Manassas

Austro-Prussian          Kissengen

Anglo Sikh War          Gujrat (1849)

Napoleonic 1813         Lutzen*

We are hoping to get a couple of other games hosted, but fear not! - we still have spaces/tables available if you have a BBB game that you’d like to host.

Our hosts include several veteran BBB players, including Chris Pringle, who wrote the rules and at least two scenario books and Mark Smith, who has just published the Bloody Big Battles in India scenario book.

As mentioned before, we are running this event on   Saturday 1st July, so you can have a further day’s wargaming at the excellent Joy of Six show, on Sunday 2nd July.  You don’t even have to leave Yorkshire!!

Objectives & Victory
The game is a delaying action by the Austrians, so speed is essential for the Prussians.

The Prussians have 5 physical objectives, plus gain an objective if they destroy both Austrian Cavalry units.

The Prussians will win if they hold:

Any 3 objectives at the end of Turn 6,
Any 4 objectives at the end of Turn 8,
Any 5+ objectives at the end of turn 9

A draw is if the Prussians hold 4 objectives at the end of turn 9

Austrians win if the Prussians have 3, or fewer, objectives at the end of turn 9

Thanks to Chris Pringle for allowing me to reproduce this part of his scenario (and the map in the last post).

If you want to see the full scenario, please visit the BBB Group https://groups.io/g/bloodybigbattles  "files" for this and many other exciting BBB battles.

Lockdown BBB war-game II - Skalitz

Ladies & Gentlemen

We have started Skalitz - the second BBB refight of the Austro-Prussian War.  As with Nachod, I'll give at least one update per turn and we'll see if the dice gods like the Prussians more than they did at Nachod!

Here's the Map

Nachod - FINISHED

All good things come to an end....   here is the final position after Prussian turn 10.

The Austrians held their gains, despite losing a large number of troops.  The Austrian view:

It has been a really fun game, in the balance all the way.  Many thanks to my fellow gamers and to Chris Pringle, who has moved the troops, rolled the dice and presented the results in an easy to read format that has made planning our moves easy.

There are plans for another game in this campaign, so I will report on that as and when!

In the meantime - stay safe!
